History

Blackjack Cemetery grew out of the Black Jack Methodist Church, which was organized in 1871 west of this site and relocated here in 1886 onto land donated by Sophronia Jane Warren. The first burial took place in 1887, and the adjoining church doubled as a community school until 1916. The cemetery is recognized by a Texas Historical Commission marker placed in 1988.
