History

This burial ground, part of the Texas prison system's Wynne Unit and located within the perimeter of the adjacent Holliday Unit near Huntsville, holds the graves of incarcerated men, a number of them marked simply as 'unknown.' The Wynne Unit traces to 1883, when Texas purchased what became its first state prison farm, naming it for John Magruder Wynne, a member of the prison system's Board of Trustees.
