History

Galilee Cemetery is associated with the historically African American community of Galilee in Walker County, which was the first home of the industrial school founded by educator Samuel Walker Houston. Listed among the county's Black cemeteries, it holds more than 250 recorded burials from the community, which had largely dispersed by the late 20th century.
