History
The Rattlesnake Bomber Base Museum commemorates Pyote Army Air Field, a World War II B-17 and B-29 training base about 20 miles west of Monahans nicknamed the 'Rattlesnake Bomber Base' for the dens uncovered during its 1942 construction. Within four months of opening it was the country's largest bomber installation, and after the war it stored thousands of aircraft, including the Enola Gay. Now relocated to Monahans beside the Million Barrel Museum, it displays artifacts, uniforms, and part of the original base post office.
