History

Barrington Living History Farm, part of Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site, recreates the 1850s cotton farm of Dr. Anson Jones, the last president of the Republic of Texas. Jones named the farm "Barrington" after his Massachusetts hometown of Great Barrington and worked it with his family and enslaved laborers. Costumed interpreters today farm using period methods drawn from Jones's own daybooks, tending the family home, slave cabins, kitchen, smokehouse, and barn.
