History

Barrington was the plantation home of Anson Jones, the fourth and last president of the Republic of Texas, who in 1844 bought about 1,107 acres near Washington-on-the-Brazos from Moses Austin Bryan. Jones named the place for his Massachusetts birthplace, and the house served as the last presidential residence of the Republic from 1844 to 1846. The Texas Centennial Commission acquired the structure in 1936 and moved it to Washington State Park, where it now anchors the Barrington Living History Farm.
