About this tour

The Barrow gang was a North Texas story before it became a national one. This driving route follows that geography soberly and factually, without glorifying the crimes: the West Dallas neighborhood where Clyde Barrow grew up, the two cemeteries where Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow are buried, the Dallas County intersection where two highway patrolmen were killed in 1934, and the Pilot Point town square used as a location for the 1967 film. The gang's two-year run across the Depression-era Southwest left thirteen people dead, including nine law officers; this tour keeps that human cost in view. Where buildings have been lost to demolition, stops are marked as historic sites rather than surviving structures. Approach the route as a study in history and place, not as a celebration of outlaws.
