About this tour

Some of the biggest names in Texas history share one thing: a quiet plot of North Texas ground. This day-long driving pilgrimage threads the Metroplex's great cemeteries, from Dallas to Fort Worth and on to Denton, visiting the people who built the place and the legends who passed through it. You'll stand near the resting places of Bonnie and Clyde — buried apart at their families' wish — the cattle kings who turned grass into fortunes, a Cowboys coach beneath a fedora-topped monument, a blues guitarist whose fans still tie bandanas to his marker, the inventor of the Frito, and the founders whose names the counties still carry. Treat each stop as you would any active burial ground: these are places of mourning as well as history, so visit gently, keep to the drives and public paths, and let the markers and monuments tell the story. Pack water and patience — the loop covers a lot of Texas.
