About this tour

The metroplex wears its art outdoors. Across the cities that ring it, you can drive from a herd of bronze mustangs galloping through a fountain to a winged horse turning above downtown Dallas, from sculptures of a man tearing himself out of the pavement in Deep Ellum to a block-long cattle-drive mural in Fort Worth. This route gathers the signature outdoor pieces — sculpture, murals, and the public buildings that double as art — into one loop, starting in Irving's Las Colinas, sweeping through Addison, dropping into downtown Dallas and the Deep Ellum arts district, then crossing to Fort Worth's Sundance Square. None of it sits behind a museum admission desk; all of it is free to walk up to, photograph, and stand beneath. Distances are real and the parking varies, so plan it like the cross-metroplex drive it is. What links these works is ambition — each city using public art to say something about itself, from corporate Las Colinas to grassroots Deep Ellum.
