About this tour

Dallas-Fort Worth has been an aviation town since before most Americans had ever seen an airplane, and this driving route traces that long arc. It begins at Dallas Love Field, where the Frontiers of Flight Museum and the THC marker tell the story of the city's century in the air. It crosses to Fort Worth, where a marker recalls the first powered flight ever made in the city in 1911, then visits Meacham Field and its aviation museum, the great Consolidated Vultee bomber plant, and finishes at the American Airlines museum near DFW Airport. Between them the stops cover the barnstormers, the wartime factories, the airline age, and the working air museums that keep the old machines flying. Distances are manageable within the urban core, but allow time for the three museums, which reward a real visit.
