History

The Vickrey House in Salado was built in 1885 by Granville N. Vickrey, a local merchant, builder, and cattleman. Unusual for the region, it is an example of Second Empire Victorian architecture, with a mansard roof over a small ell-shaped plan, and is often cited as the only Victorian-style house in the village. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has since operated as a bed-and-breakfast and antique shop.
