History

When Salado was laid out in 1860, Robert Bonner Halley purchased a lot in the Robertson Addition and built this home on North Main Street, moving his family to town so his eight children could attend Salado College. Halley organized the 'Salado Mounted Troops,' among the first ranging companies in Bell County, and served as a captain in a Confederate cavalry unit. He was elected Bell County sheriff in 1873 and died in office in 1875; the house is a National Register property.
