History

Captain Robert Bonner Halley (1824-1875), a Georgia native who brought his family to the Salado area in 1853, built this two-story Greek Revival house around 1860 for his wife and eight children. The wood-frame dwelling has clapboard siding, an ell-shaped plan, and a pedimented two-story portico on square columns. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Halley organized the Salado Mounted Troops, among the first such companies in Bell County. The house is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
