History
Now known as the South Texas Building, the twelve-story Central Trust Company Building at Navarro and Houston Streets was built from 1918 to 1920 in the Beaux-Arts style and opened as the tallest and most expensive bank building in Texas at the time. It was designed by the Fort Worth firm Sanguinet and Staats with local architects Atlee B. Ayres and Charles T. Boelhauwe, and features a tripartite composition of granite base, brick shaft and terra-cotta capital.
