History

The St. Anthony Hotel is a ten-story luxury hotel in downtown San Antonio built in 1909 by cattlemen B. L. Naylor and Augustus H. Jones, who believed the city would become a major tourist destination. Designed by architect James Flood Walker, it was the city's first luxury hotel, offering mahogany furnishings, in-room telephones, and other innovations. Over the decades it hosted presidents, generals, and film stars, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
