History
The Buckhorn traces to 1881, when seventeen-year-old bartender Albert Friedrich opened the Buckhorn Saloon in San Antonio and began trading drinks for antlers and horns, amassing a vast collection of mounted wildlife. Today the museum displays specimens representing hundreds of species from around the world alongside the Texas Ranger Museum's authentic badges, firearms, photographs and artifacts. The collection later passed to Friedrich's heirs and was relocated to its present downtown home.
