History
Thomas Brady commissioned the St. Louis firm Mauran, Russell and Crowell to design the Empire Theatre, which was enclosed within his eight-story Brady Building on the site of the former Rische Opera House and opened December 14, 1914. Operating first as a vaudeville house and then a movie theater, it was rescued by the city in 1987, renamed for donor Charline McCombs, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
