History
The Maverick Building is a downtown San Antonio high-rise completed in 1922 by the estate of George M. Maverick, a son of Samuel Maverick, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, on the site of the earlier Maverick Hotel. It served as an office building filled with insurance firms, accountants, and lawyers until downtown commercial decline left it vacant through the 1980s. The city later funded its conversion to apartments, and after further restoration it reopened as the Maverick Apartments in 2017. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
