History
The U.S. Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Museum began as a teaching collection at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania in 1920 and moved with the Medical Field Service School to Fort Sam Houston in 1946, receiving its current designation from the Surgeon General in 1955. Its present 40,000-square-foot building, funded by donations raised by the museum foundation, opened in July 1989. As the nation's only Army medical museum, it traces military medicine and the Army Medical Corps from 1775 to the present.
