History

Pilgrims Cemetery lies along FM 1462 near Rosharon in northern Brazoria County and forms part of a historically African American burial ground shared with the adjoining Daughters (Knights and Daughters) Cemetery, the two marked by a common sign and known together as the Pilgrims, Knights and Daughters Cemetery. Its name reflects the Black fraternal benevolent orders that established and maintained the grounds, which hold several hundred recorded burials. The Knights and Daughters section carries a Historic Texas Cemetery designation from the Texas Historical Commission.
