History
Nineveh Cemetery lies about six miles west of De Leon in northwestern Comanche County, at the site of a community founded after the Civil War by Southerners moving west. In 1886 Hezekiah Bellamy donated two acres for a school and cemetery, and a young Harvard-educated schoolmaster named both for the ancient Assyrian city of Nineveh. The first burial was that of Elizabeth McNeely (1804-1890), and her descendants long tended the grounds. With roughly two dozen graves of pioneer families, the cemetery received a Texas Historical Commission marker in 2000.
