History

Amity Cemetery sits on land once controlled by the Matador Land and Cattle Company, which deeded the tract to the elders of the Amity Church of Christ strictly for church and burial use, with a clause returning it to the company if it were ever used otherwise. The graveyard served the surrounding ranching community in northern Dickens County; its oldest marked grave is that of an infant Sargent girl who died in February 1904.
