History
Pila Blanca Cemetery is one of the few surviving landmarks of Pila Blanca, a now-vanished community in north-central Duval County about ten miles southeast of Freer. The settlement existed by the 1940s, when a school and several dwellings stood at the site; by 1955 its school had been absorbed into the Rosita Independent School District. Today only a handful of residences, an old water tower, and the cemetery remain, and the graveyard preserves the memory of the first families who settled the area. Pila Blanca is now regarded as a ghost town.
