History

The Cadena Cemetery is a small family burial ground in the Pila Blanca community of north-central Duval County, roughly ten miles southeast of Freer. Pila Blanca existed by the 1940s as a cluster of dwellings with a school that was later folded into the Rosita Independent School District, and the settlement is now regarded as a ghost town. Family graveyards such as this one preserve the memory of the settlers who once farmed and ranched the area.
