History

The James S. Sanderson House stands at 201 N. Gaines Street in Ennis, in Ellis County. It is one of the roughly 44 private residences and 94 commercial buildings recognized when the National Park Service added Ennis's historic resources to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, following the 'Historic Resources of Ennis, Texas' survey prepared by Hardy-Heck-Moore. The house reflects the residential architecture of the railroad-era town, whose growth followed the arrival of the Houston and Texas Central Railway.
