History
Eiband's began in September 1895 as the Garbade, Eiband & Co. dry-goods store and grew into one of Galveston's premier department stores. In 1914 the firm Green & Finger consolidated and remodeled several adjoining buildings at 2201 Post Office Street into a four-story store, incorporating the earlier 1870 Ballinger & Jack Building as the centerpiece of the facade. The store closed in 1992 and the building has since been converted into residential condominiums. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
