History

The Thompsonville community took shape in the 1850s after Clement Allen sold parcels of his land grant to settlers, among them Preston Thompson, who opened the first store and gave the place its name. A Baptist church was organized about 1863 and a post office operated from 1869 to 1874. The community cemetery, north of U.S. 90 between Waelder and Harwood, holds several hundred burials of these early families.
