History

This African American cemetery serves Harwood, a Gonzales County town founded in 1875 as a depot on the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railroad and named for attorney Thomas Moore Harwood. It is one of several separate burial grounds at Harwood that reflect the segregated cemetery practices of the period.
