History
Eli Noland (1804-1841) came from Ohio to join the Texas struggle for independence and served as a captain in William S. Fisher's company at the Battle of San Jacinto. He died in Houston on Christmas Day 1841 and was buried under the auspices of Holland Masonic Lodge No. 1. His marker stands in Founders Memorial Cemetery, Houston's oldest burial ground, opened in 1836 in what is now the Fourth Ward.
