History

Gafford Chapel Cemetery is the resting place of many Hopkins County pioneers and takes its name from Thomas Mayfield Gafford (1849-1927), who deeded land here for a church in 1881. The surrounding Gafford community, just off State Highway 11 in west-central Hopkins County, supported a church and a school that enrolled sixty-four students by 1905. Early families such as the Gaffords, Moores, and Chapmans are buried here.
