The Redeemed Christian Church of God, a denomination that began in Nigeria in 1952, established this school in August 2012 as the RCCG North America Seminary. Its purpose was to prepare pastors and other leaders for the church's North American branch, which had started in Detroit in 1991 and grew to more than 800 congregations in the United States and Canada. From its base in Greenville, in Hunt County, the seminary combined classroom and online instruction in Bible, theology, pastoral leadership and ministry. It became Redeemers University North America in 2023, and it is now authorized to award certificates and associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, with its programs centered on pastoral and ministry studies.
