History

Green Elm Cemetery sits on the eastern edge of Jack County near the West Fork of the Trinity River and Green Elm Bridge, where the river enters Lake Bridgeport. First known as Verner Cemetery and later Elm Wood, it took shape after the January 1877 death of the wife of landowner Harvey B. Verner; its earliest grave dates to about 1870, and roughly fifty-five burials, many now unmarked, lie in the wooded, brush-covered plot.
