History

The Runge Catholic Cemetery serves the Catholic community of Runge, a town founded in 1887 when the San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railroad extended its tracks eastward from Kenedy Junction and the firm H. Runge and Company platted and named the townsite. By 1890 Runge had become the largest town in Karnes County, and it developed several separate cemeteries, Catholic, city, Hispanic, and African American, reflecting its diverse population.
