History

The Runge Latin American Cemetery is one of four historic cemeteries at Runge, serving the town's Mexican-American community. Runge was founded in 1887 by H. Runge and Company along the newly extended San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railroad and by 1890 was the largest town in Karnes County; its Catholic, city, Hispanic, and African American cemeteries reflect the segregated burial customs of the era.
