Post Oak Cemetery served the Post Oak community in Lamar County, a farming settlement founded after the Civil War that was first known as Gantt before taking the Post Oak name. A school was operating there by 1897 with more than fifty pupils. The cemetery survives from that community, which is also associated with separate East and West Post Oak burial grounds.
