History

Daniel Nelson Alley (1810-1868) was a co-founder of Jefferson who, with Allen Urquhart, platted the town in the early 1840s; Alley laid out his addition on a true north-south, east-west grid that gives Jefferson its distinctive double street pattern. About 1851 he built the Alley-McKay House, a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
