History

Rodef Sholom Cemetery is the burial ground of Temple Rodef Sholom, McLennan County's oldest and largest Jewish congregation. Its roots reach back to 1869, when Waco's Hebrew Benevolent Association formed and bought land for a Jewish cemetery; the congregation itself was organized in 1879 by about forty families, including prominent merchants such as Sam Sanger of the Sanger Brothers firm. The cemetery adjoins the separate Agudath Jacob Jewish cemetery, the two divided by a driveway.
