History

Dora Cemetery marks the site of Dora, described as Nolan County's first and oldest community, which grew up in the late 1870s and was named for Dora Collins, the postmaster's daughter. James Fleener Ensminger gave a corner of his land for the cemetery, where the first known graves date to 1901. Because shallow rock made deep burial difficult, residents largely abandoned the site in the 1920s in favor of the nearby Slater's Chapel and Nolan cemeteries.
