History

Slater Chapel Cemetery grew up around Slaters Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church, South, a white frame church deeded on April 4, 1904, that served the surrounding community along the waters of Bitter Creek in Nolan County. The congregation used the chapel until moving to Nolan in 1939, but the burial ground remained in use, with the Slater family and their descendants donating additional land as it expanded.
