History

Blackwell Cemetery, known historically as the James Cemetery, lies about two miles north of the town of Blackwell along Highway 70 in southern Nolan County. In its early years burial lots sold for five dollars each, and the ground took the Blackwell name after the town itself was renamed. In the 1930s R. D. Nabers donated an additional five acres, and the cemetery has since grown to well over a thousand graves.
