History

Hendricks Cemetery lies in northwestern Panola County on the grounds of the former Hendrick plantation, one of the antebellum cotton plantations worked by enslaved African Americans in East Texas. The Hendrick and neighboring Ware plantations were the subject of later archeological study, which documented both the family burial ground and a separate enslaved-community cemetery on the property. The cemetery preserves the memory of one of the county's early plantation families.
