History
The Annie Riggs Memorial Museum in Fort Stockton is housed in a structure built in 1899 as the Koehler Hotel, which Annie Frazier Johnson Riggs purchased in 1904 and operated as a boarding house called the Riggs Hotel. Riggs, born near Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1858, ran the hotel until her death in 1931; her second husband Barney Kemp Riggs was widely regarded as an outlaw. In 1955 her heirs deeded the building to the Fort Stockton Historical Society, which opened the museum within the year, and today its thirteen rooms and courtyard display photographs, furnishings, and artifacts on the heritage of Fort Stockton and Pecos County.
