History

Evergreen Cemetery lies in southeastern Red River County and grew up around the Evergreen Baptist Church, to which one acre was deeded in 1909-1910. The burial ground has long served the area's African American residents; its oldest documented grave is that of John Lee, who died in 1926, and about 56 burials had been recorded by the mid-2000s.
