History

This cemetery, recorded as Akin (or Aikin Grove) Cemetery and also known as Oak Grove, adjoins the Aikin Grove Missionary Baptist Church about four miles south of Clarksville in southwestern Red River County. In March 1897 J. D. Aikin and his wife sold two acres of the J. C. Heart survey to the Baptist and Methodist Episcopal churches and school. The oldest marked grave is Dollie Maxwell, who died in 1905, and the site holds roughly 229 recorded graves.
