History

Halesboro Cemetery lies in the southwestern part of Red River County south of Rugby and grew out of the Halesboro Masonic, church, and school community. The earliest land transaction conveyed two acres of the Joshua C. Hale survey to the Halesboro Masonic and Church interests in 1877, followed by an 1880 acre deeded to the Halesboro Methodist Church. Confederate veterans of the 29th Texas Cavalry, including Wm. R. Patton and Wade H. Roach, are buried here.
