History

Pleasant Hill Cemetery sits behind the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in southwestern Red River County, south of Clarksville on FM 909, and both church and cemetery have served the local African American community for about a century. A 1911 deed conveyed five acres of the William Bruton survey from C. F. Wilson to the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The oldest marked burial is Leon Jackson, who died in 1931, and about 161 burials had been documented by 2004.
