History

Detroit Cemetery lies about a mile south of the town of Detroit in southwestern Red River County, just east of FM 410. Its oldest marked grave, that of Carolina W. Dorsett, dates to 1873, and cemetery land was formally deeded to the burial ground in 1892 and again in 1909. By 2004 it held nearly 2,000 documented burials.
