History

The Tivoli cemeteries serve the town of Tivoli, founded in 1907 by rancher and entrepreneur Preston R. Austin and named for his Tivoli Ranch. Surveyor J. W. Ward platted the original townsite in 1907 near the mouth of the Guadalupe River in northeastern Refugio County, and by 1914 Tivoli had about 400 residents, a bank, general stores, and a Catholic church donated by Austin.
