History
The Burk Burnett Building at 500 Main Street in downtown Fort Worth was designed by Sanguinet & Staats and completed in 1914, when its twelve stories made it the city's first skyscraper. Originally home to the State National Bank, it was purchased in 1915 by cattle and oil baron Samuel Burk Burnett, owner of the famous 6666 Ranch, who renamed it for himself. The building features a white terra cotta and granite base, a red brick shaft, and an ornate terra cotta cornice, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 12, 1980.
