History

The City section is the oldest part of Abilene's municipal cemetery on Cottonwood Street, dating to about 1881 when the burial ground was first laid out. It adjoins the Masonic, Odd Fellows, and Cedar Hill sections, and the combined grounds hold more than 26,000 people. Among them are Abilene founder K. K. Legett and railroad builder Morgan Jones.
